Our training currently involves walking in the New Forest whenever possible (usually Friday evenings to Saturdays), a weekly 10+ mile walk and gym sessions at least 3 times a week. These consist of running, rowing, weights, crunches and swimming. Ben is also working on his upper body strength and frequently carries 35 lbs (15 litres of water) in his bag in preparation for carrying equipment for the trek. We recently spent a week in the Lake District, during which we climbed Helvelyn, and earlier this year visited the Alps where we did lots of mountain walking. Ben has also run 90 miles across the South Downs in under 30 hours, continuing through the night with an hour long break. Before the Coast to Coast walk, we are planning to cover a number of short walks including the Avon Valley Trail (Sailisbury to Christchurch), Itchen Way and various sections of the South Downs Way.
